Groton-Mary Ann (Gualtieri) Franzius, 81, of Bayberry Lane, died Friday January 1, 2016 in Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Fred Franzius for 37 years. Born in Norwich, she was the daughter of the late Deno & Theresa (Gross) Gualtieri.
MaryAnn worked as a waitress for Ming Garden and as a sales clerk for Down Under Sheep Skin. She spent her time “donating” at Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and the Plainfield dog track. She loved to spend time with her family and her grandchildren. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the ICU nurses, the Floor 4 nurses and the Floor 6 nurses at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and to Hospice of Southeast Connecticut for their support of MaryAnn and her family.
In addition to her husband, MaryAnn is survived by her children, George Bekris and his wife Donna Erichsen of Norwich, Gregory Bekris of Norwich, Tom Lodge of South Carolina, and Stacey Hancock and her husband Keith of Quaker Hill; her step daughter, Katrina Franzius of Groton; her brother, David Gualtieri of Norwich; her sister Joan Lewerk of Lisbon; her five grandchildren, Jordon Hancock, Ashlee Hancock, Kaeley Hancock, Olivia Lodge and Colton Lodge; her nephew, Joe Lewerk and her neice, Tori Gualtieri. She was predeceased by her son, John Bekris and her niece Wendy Lewerk.
