Mary Ann Fisher was born on October 11, 1935 in Washington, D.C. to Karl and Mary Fisher, the first of seven children. She spent her early years in the Brookland neighborhood of D.C. During World War II she lived in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After returning to DC, she attended elementary school at St. Anthony’s School where she loved being a Girl Scout and volunteering at church. As a young teen, she moved to Hyattsville, Maryland and attended high school at the Academy of the Holy Cross, then located on Upton Street in DC. Fond memories of her years as a Lady of the Academy at Holy Cross brought Mary Ann joy and pride throughout the rest of her life.
After graduating in 1953, she proceeded onto college at the University of Maryland where she majored in Home Economics. At UMD, she enjoyed competing on the synchronized swimming team and was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was famous on campus for her beloved green Plymouth.
Like most of us, Mary Ann worked for the weekend.
