Mary Ann Broadway, nee Hodge, 83, of O’Fallon, IL, formerly of Burlington NC, died peacefully November 15, 2017, at BJC Hospital in St. Louis, MO following three days of declining health. Mary was a resident of Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Lebanon, IL for the last two years. She was born November 9, 1934 in Orange County, NC to the late Clyde Thomas and Celia (Douglas) Hodge. She was a 1953 graduate of Elon High School in Elon, NC where she was selected “most sweetest”. Mary Ann loved her grandchildren and especially enjoyed visits in the nursing home by her two-year-old great-granddaughter, Ellie Scott. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, and cooking her southern dishes for her family. Despite moving to Illinois, along with her son, Eddie in 2004, Mary Ann never gave up her love for North Carolina. She made a point to tell everyone she met that she was from North Carolina and asked if they had ever been there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Thomas and Celia Hodge, nee Douglas; and a son, Curry Thomas Broadway of Burlington, NC in 2000. She is survived by sons, Eddie Broadway of O’Fallon, IL, Andy (Margie) Broadway of Swansea, IL; sister, Helen Hodge (Donald) Pennington of Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Donald Broadway of Burlington, NC, Nicholas (Katie) Broadway of Hernando, MS, Katie Broadway of Southaven, MS, Shelby Broadway a student at Ole Miss; great-granddaughter, Ellie Scott Broadway; a niece and four nephews.
