Mary Montag died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carolina Lakes Sun City, South Carolina at age 96. She was born in Whittemore, Iowa on June 2, 1920, to John and Helena (Dahlhauser) Bisenius. Mary was wed to John O. Montag on August 20, 1940. They were married for 59 years before John passed in 1999. They resided in West Bend, Iowa where John farmed and worked in the implement business and where Mary worked 30 years for the West Bend Public Schools as a librarian and nurse’s aide. During this time they lived their dream welcoming and nurturing seven children to their union. She valued education attending Morningside College and held many certificates from Iowa Lakes Community College.

After her retirement, Mary moved to South Carolina. She remained independent and enjoyed life to the fullest until her death. She was kind and gracious and lived each day with a positive attitude. Mary always had a hug for everyone she met. Mary’s focus was always about her family and her spiritual life. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was committed to daily prayer and devotions which she said faithfully.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband John, her dear son Kenneth, her parents, and five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by six children: Robert (Toshie), Indian Land SC, Terry (Sheri) of Burlington Wisconsin, Patrick (Rachel), Montezuma, Iowa, Janice Connolly (Bruce), of Chanhassen MN. Keith (Deborah), Eagle, Colorado and Shari Bleuer (Joe) of Puyallup, WA. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and her brother Ed of The Villages, Fl. and her sister Lucille of Hyattsville MD. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Indian Land and now rests peacefully in the arms of her Loving Father and Savior Jesus Christ.
