She was born May 25, 1935 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Russell and Irene Dick and was the youngest of three children. She attended Catholic schools and graduated from St. Catherine University in 1957. Shortly afterwards, she travelled to Germany to marry her college sweetheart, Lt. Robert John Donaldson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin who was stationed in Germany as a pilot in the United States Air Force. They were blessed with four children and during his Air Force career, they enjoyed traveling to numerous countries and lived not only in Germany, but also in the Philippine Islands and Panama as well as several states. Mary was always proud to be an Air Force wife and had the gift of being able to make good friends wherever she went.

She and Bob retired from the military in 1978 and moved to Phoenix and then Flagstaff, Arizona where she worked for Grand Canyon Airline and the Imax theater at the Grand Canyon. Vacations were spent in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they had many dear friends. May was a devout Catholic and served in various ministries at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Her membership as an auxiliary member of the Military Officers Association of Americas during her latter years gave her great enjoyment as did her monthly ladies lunch group. She was always known for her warm, bright smile. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 55 years.

She is survived by her children Marie (Bob) of Nevada, Robert of Alaska, Patrick (Stephanie) of Georgia, and Thomas of Arizona as well as grandchildren Michael, Katrina, Catherine (Jeremy), Robert (Jacey), Anne-Marie, Jessica, Selena, Erika, Krystal and Cole; great-grandchildren Caiden, Robbie, Jacob, and Talyn; her sister Dorothy and brother Walter (Joanne) of Minnesota, cousins, nieces & nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, her companion, Bill and his daughter Kathy, and a multitude of friends spanning many years and locations.
