Mary Agnes Johnson, 82, of Galesburg, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 6:17 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
She was born on September 27, 1925 in Galesburg, the daughter of James and Agnes Carr Hoben. She married James Francis Johnson on February 3, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1980. Surviving her are three sons, Jim of Nashville, TN., Tom (and Nancy) of Ft. Worth, TX., and Arthur “Joe” (and Marti) of Peoria, IL., and one daughter Bridget (John) Myers of Denver, CO., eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one niece, Rosemary Eisemann, six nephews, Maury, Tim, Tom, Bob, Joe, and John Godsil, that were treated as daughter and sons. She loved and helped every one of her children. She thoroughly enjoyed family events – the bigger the better. Along with husband Jim, her love was unmatched for her sister Rose (deceased 1995) and her husband Maury Godsil. The two families grew up, vacationed and had many humorous adventures together. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy in 2005.
Mary worked in the accounting department at Montgomery Wards in Galesburg before she was married, later working part time and being a full time homemaker while living in Peoria. She was a volunteer coordinator for the VNA for several years. Mary was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the same church in which she and Jim were married.
