Marvin Whitaker, Sr., 89, of Monticello passed away October 29, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana. Marvin was a resident of Monticello for the past 18 years, formerly living in Rensselaer. He was born in Salyersville, Kentucky on February 25, 1924, the son of Lebo and Molly (Salyers) Whitaker. Marvin attended school in Newland.

He was a retired truck driver, driving for both Emmett Hopkins Trucking and Ted Risner Trucking. Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. On October 15, 1946, in Crown Point, Ind., Marvin married Betty L. Kendall who survives. He was a member of American Legion Post #29, V.F.W. Post #1279, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2548, all of Rensselaer, the AM Vets Post of Monticello and the Salyersville Kentucky Historical Society.

Surviving with his wife of 67 years, Betty, are five children, Allen (Kathy) Whitaker, Rensselaer, Roger Whitaker and Diana Whitaker, both of Monticello, Marvin (Rhonda) Whitaker, Jr., Rensselaer and Ron (MaryBeth) Whitaker, Delphi; six grandchildren, Rodney, Shane, Jason, Cole, Conner and Rhonda; five great-grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Pat) Whitaker, Monticello, a sister, May Madison, Rensselaer along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jeff Dick, three brothers and two sisters.
