Marvin V. Harless, Jr., passed away Monday, September 21, 2020, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by Ramsay Jo Laster Harless, his loving wife of more than 60 years and his parents, Marvin V. Harless, Sr. and Bessie Meyer Harless. He is survived by his children: Susan Harless, Norman L. Harless and Charles A. “Rusty” Harless; grandsons: James E. Gustin, III (Ashley) and Wesley B. Harless (Julie); great granddaughter: Edie Lane Gustin and; great grandsons: York Harless, Perry Harless, Ramsay Harless and Whit Gustin. Marvin and Ramsay were long time active members of East Lake United Methodist Church. Later in life, Marvin and Ramsay were members of the Huffman United Methodist Church. Throughout his adult life, Marvin was active in several civic organizations, which included the East Lake Lions Club and the Birmingham United Way’s Meals on Wheels. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 aboard the USS Manchester. Mr. Harless retired after working his entire career for the Alabama Gas Corporation.
