Okeechobee – Marvin “Portus” Mellette, Sr. died January 8, 2021. He was born November 10, 1942, in West Palm Beach, Florida to Marvin and Evelyn (Rivers) Mellette. A resident of Okeechobee for 15 years, he was a member of the Lake Okeechobee Airboat Association. He enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, hunting, airboats, and taking rides on his golf cart with his dog, Chance.
Mr. Mellette is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Mellette, of Okeechobee; sons, Portus Mellette, Jr. (Alicia), of Royal Palm Beach, and Jamie Mellette (Velva), of Okeechobee; daughter, Angel Nichols (Talley), of Loxahatchee; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Mellette (Linda), of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
