Marvin Dean Berger, 90, of Waukee, Iowa sailed home to his heavenly harbor on January 19, 2022.
He was born on April 21, 1931, in the apartment above their family’s restaurant in Clarksville, Iowa to Louis and Myrtle Berger.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly, his two sons, Kevin and his wife Janel, Kurt and his wife Pamella, his five grandchildren Jordan Holt, MacKenzie Gillaspey, Hannah Berger, Ashley Berger, Emily Sellers, and great-grandchildren, Finn Berger, Kian Berger, and Emerie Holt, and his brother Keith. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Myrtle Berger, sister Phyllis Miller, and brother Dallas Berger.
Marvin graduated from Clarksville High School in 1948. He went to Wartburg College for one year and then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1951-1955, a proud veteran of the Korean War. Marvin then graduated from Drake University with a BS in Business Administration in 1957. He began his accounting career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1957 and later passed his CPA exam in 1969.
He served in leadership positions in multiple organizations including President of the Des Moines Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, President, and member of the Board of Directors of Link Associates, serving those with mental disabilities, Treasurer and Director of Administration of the S & L Computer Trust, Assistant Vice President at the Federal Home Loan Bank, and Councilman for the City of Waukee, Iowa. Marvin faithfully finished out his CPA career working for Martins & Co. for the last 35 years.
