Marvin Bert Stelzer — August 16, 1921 – October 29, 2015

Ninety-four years is a blessed length for an earthly sojourn. Marvin began his journey here in Thorndale, TX. His parents, Fred & Sidonie Stelzer, gave him wise and patient guidance when he was first adapting to the ways of this world, but his helpmeet-in sickness and in health-for the last 72 years has been Mary Ingram, who has provided for him strength, comfort, and nourishment. He has participated in the lives of grandparents, numerous uncles and aunts, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 6 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, 4 children, 2 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law, 4 grandchildren and their spouses, 7 great grandchildren, and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.

His church family during his adult life has remained Zion Lutheran of Dallas, and he has treasured the deep and intricate connections and support that the members of this congregation have offered to him.

He proudly served in the Navy of his county for two years during WWII. He gladly assisted in solutions in the practical needs of his fellow believers during three decades while working for Aid Association for Lutherans/Thrivent.

Marvin generously gave of himself to his family; to his neighborhood (e.g., Friends of Tietze Park Association); to his church; to Concordia Seminary; and to Texas Lutheran Camps. But there was one essential task that he acknowledged he could never accomplish by his own reason or strength. He openly welcomed and fervently embraced the inescapable truth that his Savior, Jesus Christ, had accomplished this task on his behalf 2000 years ago – paying the debt for his sins and reconciling to his Eternal Father this prodigal son, who returned home on October 29, 2015.
