Martin S. Alvey Jr., 81, passed away Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis and formerly of Greenwood.

Martin was born on Nov. 10, 1931 in Paoli, Indiana to Martin S. Sr. and Eva L. (Smith) Alvey. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served during the Korean War. He married Nancy L. Hayden on June 26, 1954 in Greenwood; they were married for 58 years.

He was employed as a cabinet worker for Miller’s Cabinet Shop and was a hair stylist, where he was owner and operator of two shops, Capri and Razors Edge for many years and more recently worked at Tangles in Greenwood. Martin enjoyed fishing and watching TV. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife, Nancy Alvey of Indianapolis, three children, Douglas (Cathy) Alvey of Whiteland, Curtis Alvey and Amy (James) Jarboe both of Indianapolis, three sisters, Searah Alvey, Ruth Alvey and Mary Rickels all of Greenwood, seven grandchildren, Ashley (Rob)Yaggi, Kylee (Nathan) Mitchaner, Kristin Alvey, Jared Neely, Dylan Jarboe, Albert Pittman and Kristopher Pittman and five great-grandchildren, Connor Eakle, Camden Alvey, Peyton Pittman, Kaizer Pittman and Savannah Pittman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Martin Isaac Alvey, daughter, Pamela Jo Alvey, three sisters, Alma Horton, Angie Cook and Annie Alvey and three brothers, George Alvey, Jesse Alvey and Leonard Alvey.
