Martin Lewis Cannata, 66, of East Hampton, loving husband of Joanne (Daniels) Valentine-Cannata, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 6, 2017 after a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Waterbury, he was the son of the late Jerry and Margaret (DiFronzo) Cannata. Marty grew up and lived most his life in Cheshire before moving to East Hampton. He owned and operated Tri State Sales where he was an excellent craftsman, designing and installing kitchens. Marty was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in the Vietnam War and earning the rank of Corporal. He was extremely proud to have served in the Marine Corp and continued to live his life in that manner, Semper Fidelis “Always Faithful”. He was a wonderful man who was always willing to help anyone whether it was family, friend or someone he just met. Marty touched many lives with his kindness and generosity and will be truly missed. Along with his wife, Marty is survived by his two stepchildren, David “DJ” Valentine, Jr. and Kristen Valentine; two step grandchildren, Brayden and Harper Russenburger; his sister, Cheryl Youngquist and her husband, Biff; his nephew, Jeffrey Youngquist and his wife, Heather; his beloved sidekick, Scrappy; a large extended family and many good friends. Marty’s family would like to say a special thank you to the West Haven VA and the Middlesex Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
