Martin John Stromberger, 85, of Metamora died on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on September 7, 1930 in Eureka, IL to Martin H. and Loretta (Blumenshine) Stromberger. He was married on June 1, 1952 to the love of his life, Joyce M. Hoover, for a wonderful 63 years.
He leaves his beloved wife Joyce; daughter Kim Morris; son Marty and wife Julie; daughter Dawn Louise and husband Ken; grandchildren Kristen (Morris) Hoch and husband Matt; Jason Stromberger and wife Jenessa; Kelsey (Stromberger) Tichey and husband Don; Haley Morris, Jenna Stromberger, Amanda Louise, and Abby Louise. He is survived by his brother Jack Stromberger and wife Judy; sister Pat (Stromberger) Eckhoff and husband Marvin, and sister Eva (Stromberger) Keller. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Ira Keller and son-in-law Les Morris.
Following a Tour of Duty serving as a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Korean War, Marty dedicated much of his professional career to Metamora Township High School over a period of 26 years as a teacher, principal, athletic director, and beloved football coach. As principal, two of his most rewarding accomplishments were the early introduction of computer systems into the school and the establishment of a strong trade program and facility. He coached his Metamora football teams to 7 conference titles. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame as well as several other area Hall of Fames. After his retirement from Metamora High School, he served his Alma Mater, Eureka College, as Admissions counselor and athletic director.
