Martin John Eckert of Burlington Township passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 peacefully and with dignity surrounded by family and friends, just weeks after the above photo was taken on July 4th. His strength and determination through his battle against small cell lung cancer was unexplainable even to medical professionals. Marty was a graduate of Burlington City High’s class of 1973. As Road Supervisor of Burlington Township Public Works, Marty loved and led “His Guys” for 32 years.
Even after retiring 7 years ago he still woke up at 5 o’clock in the morning to talk to his long time friend “Bunk” before heading to the fishing dock at Sylvan Lake. Marty enjoyed LBI and Stone Harbor vacations, his seats at Phillies games and building his own house, which over the years would be his family’s castle where they will be bringing his remains back home to. Predeceased by his father Edward, father-in-law Robert Pinto and sister-in-law Linda Pinto. Survived by his mother Gloria, and mother-in-law Mary Pinto. Also survived by is devoted wife of 40 years Shirley, their loving sons Marty Jr. (Christy), Brandon (Jackie) & Tyler. His greatest joys, his grandchildren Austin, Isabella, & Harper. His siblings; “wingman and partner-in-crime” Edward Jr. (Patty), Gloria, Cindy (Steve), Dorothy (Bill), & David (Linda) and his in-laws Robert (Paula), Billy (Pat), & Carole and many nieces and nephews along with some very special friends who are “our family”.
