Martin Gregory (Greg) Shannon of Silver Spring, Maryland,died at home on January 4, 2015. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Shannon, their two daughters, Meredith Shannon Fielding (Mark) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Adrienne Shannon Thompson (Gary) of Germantown, Maryland, and seven grandsons. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Frey of Zionsville, Pennsylvania, and Celia Huertas of Miami, Florida.

Greg was born March 12, 1940, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Martin Gregory Shannon, Sr. and Helen Shannon. He was a 1962 graduate of Lafayette College and a 1965 graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He served for more than 40 years as a Lutheran pastor, leading congregations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.  Toward the end of his pastoral career, he recognized a need for ministry to Spanish-speaking residents in Montgomery County, Maryland, and became involved with Community Ministries of Rockville’s Language Outreach Program. In addition to taking classes to learn Spanish, he and Susan spent a summer in Costa Rica in a Spanish-language immersion program.

Greg maintained lifelong interests in history, baseball and model trains. He enjoyed sharing his model train display with his daughters and later his grandsons.
