Martin A. Walsh, of Brooksby Village, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita S. Walsh, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. The son of Coleman and Sarah (Riley) Walsh, Marty was born in Portland, Maine on February 25, 1921 and raised in South Boston. He graduated from South Boston High School and Northeastern University. He was employed by General Electric for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. Prior to GE, he spent a year with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) working on municipal projects throughout the state. Before moving to Brooksby Village in 2005, Marty was a resident of Danvers for 45 years. It was here that he and Rita raised their family. He is survived by his son, Timothy M. Walsh and his wife, Theresa of Lynnfield and his daughter Barbara Walsh DiMambro and her husband Robert of Beverly. Perhaps the greatest joy of his life were his four grandsons, Tyler and Patrick Walsh, and Cpl Kyle (USMC) and Justin O’Connor. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Marty is survived by a sister, Mary Ward of Norwood and many nieces and nephews.
