Chicago – Martin Anthony O’Malley, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, August 21, 2017. Martin was born on February 19th, 1931 in Rogers Park to Patrick and Mary O’Malley of Co. Mayo and was a member of St. Gertrude’s Parish. After graduating from Sullivan High School, Martin served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1953. On September 24, 1955 he married his lifelong love Mary Whelan (Co. Kildare). In 1957, Martin joined the Chicago Police Department and proudly worked until his retirement in 1989. Even in retirement, Martin was passionate about serving others and volunteered countless hours for Special Olympics, the USO, and the Leaning Tower YMCA Conquerors.
Martin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary and was devoted to their five children, Patrick (Leatha); Ann Mary (David Wheeler); Martin Jr.; Tim; Eileen (Tim Ness).
