Martin Monahan, age 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Mary Troy Monahan, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Born in Lissycasey, County Clare, Ireland, he immigrated to Bridgeport in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

In 1959, he married Mary, his wife of 53 years, and together they raised their four children in Fairfield. He was a longstanding member of the Gaelic American Club, Holy Family Parish, and most recently, the Fairfield Senior Center. He will always be remembered as honest and hard-working. He enjoyed talking politics over coffee, he delighted in Irish music and dance, and he loved to work with his hands. He was perpetually optimistic and deeply devoted to his family.

Martin is survived by his four children: Dr. Brian Monahan (Mary) of Kensington, MD, Kathleen Ostenby (Peter) of St. Paul, MN, Dr. Kevin Monahan of Boston, MA, and Ann (Richard) Cimmino of Fairfield; his 12 grandchildren: Aileen, Erin, Claire, Kathleen, Connor, Caitlin, Megan, Shannon, Emily, Ryan, Katie, and Andrew; his sister Ann Monk of Fairfield; his brother-in-law Denis Troy (Barbara) of Milford; and many nieces and nephews. Martin is pre-deceased by his wife, Mary Monahan, his sister, Mary Kate Griffin, and his five brothers: Thomas, Patrick, Timothy, Vincent, and Christopher Monahan.
