Martha W. Burns, 86, of Peoria and formerly of Jacksonville, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Cornerstone Health Care in Peoria Heights.
She was born May 4, 1932, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Elisha A. and Lillian Smith Brown. She married Daniel Otis Cors on August 9, 1957, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1967. She later married Harry E. Burns on Nov. 3, 1968, in Washington, IL, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2016.
She is survived by three children, Beverly Cors of Peoria, David (Christine) Cors of Deer Creek, and Paul (Christine) Burns of Peoria; two stepchildren, Michael (Crystal) Burns of Washington, and Rebecca (David) Folck of Peoria; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold (Lee) Brown of Chesterfield, MI. She was preceded in death by one grandchild; one great-grandchild; five sisters, Marguerite Cunningham, Gertrude Hodge, Marjorie Benjamin, Barbara Staggmeier, and Mary Catherine Kolberer; and one brother, Floyd Brown.
Mrs. Burns graduated from Jacksonville High School on June 2, 1950. Following high school, she worked as a telephone operator and went on to be a caretaker for Lutheran Social Services. She enjoyed sewing and bowling.
