Martha Ruth Hames Gregg, 97, passed away in Lafayette, IN on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at St. Anthony Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on November 26, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, IN, she was the daughter of Ray and Nellie Marie Hames. Martha graduated from Central High School in Evansville, IN, and in 1944 married Nieth Lee Gregg. She worked as a medical transcriptionist at Welborn Clinic and later managed the cancer registry for Welborn Hospital in Evansville. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Mt. Vernon, IN, and later Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lafayette, IN. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Nieth in 1976, and by her twin brother, Donald Hames of North Miami, FL, in 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (James) Compton of Lafayette, and her son, Larry (Cynthia Garner) Gregg. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Gregory (Lindsay) Compton of Indianapolis, Patrick Gregg, Stuart Gregg, and Aiden Gregg, and two great grandchildren, Alexander and Spencer Compton.
