Martha P. Gunnels, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Jacksonville.
She was born May 16, 1926 in Waverly, IL, the daughter of Otis and Lucille DeLong Stewart. She married William L. “Bud” Gunnels on March 5, 1955 in Quincy, IL and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1975.
She is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Retzer (husband, Gene) of Jacksonville and Virginia “Elsie” Sibert (husband, Lowell) of Rockford; a brother, Richard Stewart of Makanda; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Gladys Jackson, Verna Lee Blair, Florence Stewart, and Margaret Rees; and two brothers, Theodore “Ted” Stewart and Stanley Stewart.
Martha retired following 16 years of employment with Hertzberg-New Method Book Bindery in South Jacksonville. She enjoyed residing in the Phoenix, AZ area for several years.
