MARTHA “NANA” MONTANO, 83, resident of Deming passed away Saturday October 1, 2022 at Mt. View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
Nana, as many knew her was born July 26, 1939 in Hot Springs, New Mexico to Thomas Jefferson and Sofia (Sandoval) Dodds. She has lived in Deming all her life and locally she was a teacher’s aid at Bell School and had been active with St. Ann Catholic Church where she was a member of the Cursillistas and at one time was a catechism teacher. She was a special person to many in the community and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Victor “Chapo” Montano of Deming; sons Ruben “Sonny” Montano and Victor Montano II of Deming; sister Vera Torres (Benny) of Deming and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, son Tommy Dodds Montano, and daughters Frances Marie “Ali” Montano, Victoria Montano and Frances Marie “Frenchie” Montano.
Pallbearers will be Leo Martinez Jr., Jesse Martinez, Alex Montano, Chris Lopez, P.T. Lopez and Richard McBride. Honorary bearers are all her grandchildren.
