Martha “Marty” Lusher Terhune On December 2, 2020, Marty received her wings and made her way to Heaven. Marty, 93, was born in Anderson on December 15, 1926, to Helen and Schley Leever. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1944. While still in high school, she began practicing her good work ethic by working for A.O. Barnes Company and Ward-Stilson Company. In 1952, she married Ray Lusher and had four children: Karen (Chuck) Shorette of Pace, Florida, Debbie (Patrick) Marrinan of Bigfork, Montana, Tim (Darlene) Lusher of Anderson and Shelli (Jim) Kennedy of Boise, Idaho. Marty was a life long resident of Alexandria and Anderson. Her greatest love on this earth was her children, and she sacrificed many things to spend her time nurturing and teaching them right from wrong. She enjoyed her many visits to Greece, Montana and Idaho to see her three girls.
She was thankful that her son remained in the area, where she could spend time with him and his family. Many will remember Marty as the Secretary of Commercial Bank for many years in Alexandria where no one could match her typing skills and her delight at greeting all her customers. She retired from the bank in 1990 and married Frank Terhune. Marty was an accomplished pianist, aspiring in her early years to become a concert pianist. Instead, she raised her family and entertained many in the community with her incredible talent. In addition, she was the faithful organist at The Church at Linwood, where she was a member for many years.
She had to quit playing there when she could no longer navigate the steps up to the organ. She passed on the love of music to all of her children and some of her grandchildren. Marty was also a member of Eastern Star. Preceding her in death was her husband, Frank; her parents; her siblings, Mary and JT; grandson, Michael Lusher; and stepdaughter, Barbara Wilson. She is survived by her four children; stepdaughters, Donna (Martin) Koob and Betty Shaw; stepson, Tony (Theresa) Terhune; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, LouAnn Cummins. Marty was a devout Christian and loved by all who knew her. She cared deeply for her family and friends.
