Martha Lois “Mattie” Keene, age 64, of Donelson, TN died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Alive Hospice in Nashville following an extended illness. Ms. Keene was born December 26, 1952, in Cookeville, TN to the late Rev. Dr. Charles J. Keene Jr. and Martha Davis Keene.Ms. Keene was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Cumberland School of Medical Technology in Cookeville and worked as a lab technician for many years. She was nominated by The Refuge Center of Franklin, TN for The United Way’s Women of Inspiration award in 2015. The award is given to women who share their courageous and inspirational stories of how they made positive changes in their lives through the resources of The United Way.Her family includes five children, Silas Black, Katie (Neal) Hilton, Beth Haile, Ashley (Thomas) Johnson and Breanne (Bradley) Hunter; sister, Grady Keene, and brother-in-law, Tom Chervenak; eight grand-children, Madelyn Black, McKynna Locke, Kiersten Locke, Skyla Hunter, Rebecca, Lilyn, Skylar and Robert Johnson; and special friends, Mollie Luffman and Keri Cheney.
