Martha Lee (Fertig) Townsley passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Westminster, MD at the age of 90. Born August 5, 1925 in Cass, WV she was the daughter of the late Grace McLaughlin and Andrew Fertig.
She was educated in the public schools of Harford County, Maryland where she was 1943 graduate of Old Post Road High School and later received certifications from the Baltimore Business School. She married Edward Elwood Townsley on October 23, 1943 in Towson, MD. He predeceased her on May 25, 2001.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, sewing and sharing all that she made. Her hands were never idle and she was always serving others. She and her husband were charter members of the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department where she served as the president of the auxiliary. She volunteered for many organizations and was an active member of both Mt. Carmel and North Carroll Senior Centers where she loved doing arts and crafts and playing bingo.
She is survived by son, Jake Townsley and wife Anne of Westminster, daughter, Audrey Harkins and husband Guy of Joppa, grandchildren Kati Townsley, Beth Townsley Flanagan and husband Matt, all of Westminster, and Neil Lawson and family of Hampstead, great-grandchildren, Colin and Taylor Flanagan, and brother-in-law Latham Martin, all of Westminster, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased in death by her brother Marvin Fertig, sisters Lucille Hayes and Kathryn Higgins.
