Martha L. “Cool Lou” Daugherty, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday evening, July 31, 2013 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born August 24, 1923 in Pike County, MO, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Dawson Watson. She married LeeRoy Daugherty on April 6, 1948 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1979.
She is survived by a step-son, James Daugherty (wife, Connie) of Bolingbrook; three children, Pamela Daugherty, Shelia Pickens (husband, Michael), and Stanley Daugherty, all of Jacksonville; four step grandchildren, Dion Crites Sr., Sean Daugherty, Kevin Daugherty and Shannon Daugherty; two granddaughters, Michele and Angel Pitts; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; four sisters, Frances Watson, Liz Gibson (husband, Bill), Arlene Benning and Ailene Watson, all of Indianapolis, IN; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha L. Daugherty; a brother, Benny Lee Watson; and three sisters, Margaret Foy, Mildred Watson and Lorene Anderson.
Mrs. Daugherty was retired from Anderson-Clayton Foods and attended Bethel AME Church. She was a member of the Amvets Post #100 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a past president of the former Moss-Walton American Legion Post Auxiliary. Martha enjoyed Bingo games, playing bridge, and visiting the riverboat casinos. An avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, she also enjoyed fishing and special time with her grandchildren.
