Martha Joan Green, M.D. passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital at the age of 81, on February 1, 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer van Sickle and husband Andrew Angle of West Hartford, daughter Deborah (van Sickle) Jones of Baltimore, stepson Nicholas Green of Hamden, and two cherished grandchildren, Hayden Jones and Juliet Jones of Baltimore. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, James Green, PhD in August 2014. Dr. Green was born in Minneapolis, MN, the only child of John L. Forsyth and Martha Grace (nee Ward) and grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. A 1960 graduate of the Univ. of Ottawa Medical School, she was one of only three women in her class. She completed her internship and residency in the U.S., specializing in Psychiatry, later earning certification as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Green eventually settled in Cromwell, and her career as a psychiatrist spanned nearly 50 years before she retired from practice in 2015. Over the years, she helped thousands of patients with her work at Elmcrest Psychiatric Institute, Middlesex Memorial Hospital, and in private practice. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, and cats, including her beloved Zelda.
