Martha M. Gonzales, 53, died Jan. 18, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital after a short illness.

Martha was born Jan. 19, 1957 in Ventura. Martha attended ARC Ventura County until the time of her death. She loved attending school everyday and looked forward to her daily activities. She loved her teachers and her fellow schoolmates.

There are no words to express the love and appreciation we have for the staff and the students at ARC for the love and care they gave Martha for more than 30 years. Martha had that special gift of making you smile. Martha loved everyone and everyone who met her knew she was special. You could not help but to love her.

She loved to teach you Spanish as she was fluent in English and Spanish. She made you realize that being handicapped was a gift because she never knew hate, only love and kindness to everyone, especially her brothers and sisters.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia T. Gonzales (Cha Cha); sister, Virginia T. Gonzales; brothers, Joseph Aguilera and Francisco Gonzales. She is survived by her sisters, Mercades (Jesus) Lopez of Merced, Calif., Norma Gonzales of Oxnard, Theresa (Ruben) Araujo of Oxnard, Adela Paniagua of Oxnard, and Mary (Rudy) Lopez of Oxnard; and brother, Rafael Gonzales of Oxnard; and numerous nieces and nephews who were all lovingly called feas and feos.

I’m Free Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free;
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
If my parting has left a void; Then fill it with remembered joy.
My life’s been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me;
God wanted me now, He set me free.
