Martha Gladden Hill, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at her home. Martha was born July 17, 1936 in Athens, Alabama to Roston Elmer Gladden and Reba (Newby) Gladden.  She graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1954 and Samford University.  On May 19, 1956, she married Lowell G. Hill of Wedowee, at her home in Center Point, Alabama.  Martha was employed in accounting and human resources at Vulcan Materials Company for over 40 years.  After retiring, she was a persuasive and successful fund-raiser for multiple charitable organizations, enjoyed special event planning, and was an award-winning public speaker.  Martha was passionate about a cappella singing and was a talented alto vocalist.  She sang often with her three sons and her love and talent for music is carried on by her children and grandchildren.  Martha was an active member of the Homewood Church of Christ.

 

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Stanford Gladden and Bobby Glenn Gladden (Pat), and one sister, Edwina “Winkie” Blake (Allen).  She is survived by her husband, one sister, Gale Gladden Melton (Martin), one sister-in-law, Elois Caddell, three children, Lowell Keith Hill, John Kevin Hill, and Douglas Bradford Hill and his wife, Elisabeth Rohlfs-Hill, and two grandchildren, Gareth Bradford Hill and Igrainne Paikea Hill.
