Martha Elizabeth Brashear passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 peacefully & surrounded by love. Martha was raised on a cotton farm outside of Lubbock, TX by a close, salt of the earth, farming family.
It wasn’t an easy life, but it made her strong and she wasn’t afraid to strike out on her own. She married young and had two beautiful children.
She was a very talented painter, herbalist, healer and published author. She was a brave, Texas woman who was tough as nails and forged her own path. She was a woman of dignity, self respect and had a tremendously loving heart. She worked for American Airlines for about three years and then Hildebrand Care Center for 13 years. She loved taking care of those who needed her. Anyone who ever asked for her help never heard her say no. Martha was self employed at various times throughout her life and had a variety of interests, businesses and specialties. Martha was never afraid to try something new. She read tarot and had her own psychic hotline. Martha really put her heart toward the people who would reach out to her for help and advice. She was a caring and thoughtful listener to everyone who called her. She loved to do research on anything that sparked her interest. Martha was an ordained Minister and was very civic minded. She became an advocate for protecting our rights as far as government taxation, privacy and protected Constitutional rights for American citizens. She even teamed up with Senator Nighthorse Campbell on assorted land patents and was mentioned in the 1994-1995 World Who’s Who of Women.
She was a huge Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Steelers fan who could give you stats on either team, and could tell you what kind of classic car was coming up the road, even after dementia tried to take her memories. She was little, but mighty and determined.
She is survived by her spouse of 30 years, Matthew (Tony) Dearwester; daughter, Melissa Mars; son, Michael Hud Boyd; sister, Laura Cogburn; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Martha always expected the unexpected, so life was constantly an adventure. Her motto was “I’m ready.” She left a lasting impression on everyone she ever met and she will be missed more than we can express.
