Marshall Eugene Washington, Sr. was born on May 16, 1938, in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Rev. Howard B. Washington and the late Mary Peak Dixie. He entered eternal rest surrounded by his loved ones on March 25, 2023.
He was raised by his grandparents, Hobart and Jerdie Washington and attended Kokomo schools. Marshall was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. While he was not known to be a person of many words, he was highly respected for his acts of kindness, generosity, and strong work ethic.
He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 45 years of service. In addition to this, he owned and operated Washington Hauling and Trucking Company. He was recognized in the Kokomo area for his successful business and positive impact on the community.
If you knew Marshall, you knew he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, horses, and the rodeo. He leaves a legacy as one of the first Blacks in Kokomo Indiana that owned horses. He was very proud of his show horses.
Marshall is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Howard B. Washington, and Mary Peak Dixie; his grandparents, Hobart and Jerdie Washington; brother, Christopher Dixie; and sons, Harry O’Donnell and Alvin D. Beets (Chief).
Marshall is survived by his wife, June; sons, Andre, Tommy (Jura), William (Yong), Dale, Marshall Jr. (Dawn M.), Richard Beets and Dewy; daughters, Tonya, and Dawn J.; brothers, Rudy Dixie, Howard T. (Floria), and Chris; sister, Leslie; 27 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
