Marsha Marie Francisco, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Taylor House in Des Moines, IA.
Marsha was born July 7, 1951, in Minneapolis, MN, to Marshal and Mary Jane (Harvat) Hein. She married Kim Francisco on September 27, 1974, in Fairbanks, AK. She was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph Academy. Following high school, she attended DMACC and graduated in 1973.
Marsha worked as a Certified Dental Assistant in Fairbanks for several years after moving there to be with Kim. Then she worked as a tour guide and bus driver in Ketchikan for five years before moving to Anchorage. There she worked as a concierge for a travel company. After a few years, they transferred to Bethel where she worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for several companies.
She was a Master Gardener from the University of Alaska’s Cooperative Extension and enjoyed growing vegetables. Marsha played softball and was a shortstop for her teams in Fairbanks, Ketchikan, and Bethel. She also liked to fish and has caught everything from Bluegills to Halibut. She and Kim loved to travel everywhere. Some of their favorite places to visit were the Cook Islands, New Zealand, and Australia. In their retirement, they traveled across the United States starting in Alaska. They both loved their five golden retrievers, all named Toni, as well as Gale. At the end of their travels, Kim and Marsha settled back down in Iowa to enjoy their retirement on a small farm in Lucas.
Marsha is survived by her husband, Kim Francisco; brothers, Tom (Lana) Hein of Charlotte, NC, Roger (Eliza) Hein of Greenwood Village, CO, Greg (Jill) Hein of Denver, CO; sisters, Mary Kay Brooks of Tampa Bay, FL, Michelle (Dennis) Mullin of Clive, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
