Marsha was born on June 7, 1955 in Algonac MI. After high school, she served over seven years in the United States Navy, and then went on to earn her BS and MA degrees from Northern Illinois University, and a PhD in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Marsha’s varied and successful professional career was a testament to her abilities, creativity, and her passion for teaching. She served as a faculty member, a Dean of Graduate Studies, a Director of Assessment, and a Vice-Provost at a variety of institutions. Dr. Watson also served as a consultant and a peer reviewer with the regional accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission. In 2009, she co-founded the national organization, the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE). Marsha consulted and presented on a variety of topics, including curriculum, assessment, ethics, and college writing. She also served as Principal Investigator and as external evaluator for a number of federally funded grant projects.

Marsha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, whom she now joins in life ever after. Family, friends, and colleagues will greatly miss her sharp wit, her boundless generosity, and her genuine good nature.
