Marlyn Peter Ahlrich, 86, of Humboldt, went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2020, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, Humboldt, IA.  

 

Marlyn was born‌ ‌October‌ ‌3‌rd‌,‌ ‌1933‌ ‌in‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌to‌ ‌parents‌ ‌Peter‌ ‌and‌ ‌Martha‌ ‌(Fokken)‌ ‌Ahlrich. On October 28th, 1956 he married Christine Poppen and together they raised two children, Rodney and Terry.

 

Marlyn grew‌ ‌up‌ ‌on‌ ‌a‌ ‌farm‌ ‌south‌ ‌of‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌where‌ ‌he‌ ‌farmed‌ ‌with‌ ‌his‌ ‌father‌ ‌for‌ ‌many‌ ‌years.‌ ‌He attended‌ ‌grade‌ ‌school‌ ‌at‌ ‌a‌ ‌country‌ ‌school‌ ‌near‌ ‌the‌ ‌family‌ ‌farmstead,‌ ‌and‌ ‌then‌ ‌graduated‌ ‌high‌ ‌school‌ ‌from‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City‌ ‌High‌ ‌School‌ ‌in‌ ‌1952‌. Marlyn joined‌ ‌the‌ ‌United‌ ‌States‌ ‌Army‌ ‌in‌ ‌1953‌ ‌where‌ ‌he‌ ‌served‌ ‌for‌ ‌two‌ ‌years‌ ‌in‌ ‌Japan‌ ‌(Korean‌ ‌Conflict)‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌Private‌ ‌First-Class‌ ‌Combat‌ ‌Engineer‌ ‌(Demolition‌ ‌Squad).‌ ‌

 

He‌ ‌farmed‌ ‌with‌ ‌Christine‌ ‌near‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌for‌ ‌over‌ ‌40‌ ‌years,‌ ‌upon‌ ‌retiring‌ ‌in‌ ‌1996‌ ‌and‌ ‌moving‌ ‌to‌ ‌Humboldt,‌ ‌IA‌ . Marlyn ‌served‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌Board‌ ‌of‌ ‌Directors‌ ‌for‌ ‌Pro‌ ‌Cooperative,‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌for‌ ‌12‌ ‌years‌.

 

 

Marlyn is survived‌ ‌by‌ ‌his‌ ‌wife‌ ‌Christine,‌ ‌children:‌ ‌Rodney‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌of‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌and‌ ‌Terry‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌(Sheri)‌ ‌of‌ ‌Le‌ ‌Mars,‌ ‌IA.‌ ‌Grandchildren:‌ ‌Nathan‌ ‌(Paula)‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌-‌ ‌Pocahontas,‌ ‌IA,‌ ‌April‌ ‌(Greg)‌ ‌Smith‌ ‌-‌ ‌Gilmore‌ ‌City,‌ ‌IA,‌ ‌Tyler‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌-‌ ‌Ames,‌ ‌IA,‌ ‌Anna‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌-‌ ‌Ames,‌ ‌IA‌ ‌and‌ ‌Kara‌ ‌Ahlrich‌ ‌-‌ ‌Ames,‌ ‌IA.‌ ‌Great‌ ‌Grandchildren:‌ ‌Mathew,‌ ‌Madelyn,‌ ‌Michael‌, Johnny Paul ‌Ahlrich,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Oaklyn‌ ‌and‌ ‌Harlyn‌ ‌Smith.‌ ‌He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul Ahlrich.
