Marlene “Murf” Murphy, 72, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 in Lafayette, Indiana.

Marlene was born in Rensselaer on August 18, 1948, the daughter of Robert and Cecelia (Burgan) Benoit. Murf graduated from Wheatfield High School with the Class of 1965. She worked as a Nurse Technician for over 44 years at the former Jasper County Hospital and concurrently worked for over 20 years for Dr. Steven Beaver. Murf married Thomas P. Murphy on November 5, 1966 in Rensselaer, Indiana and he survives her. Murf is a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church. She is also a past 4-H leader and avid supporter of 4-H. Murf was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse and Indiana Quarter Horse associations, as well as the Palomino Horse Breeders Association and the Indiana Palomino Horse Association.

Murf is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Kevin Murphy and Brian (Amber Starr) Murphy, both of Rensselaer, IN; 6 grandchildren, Kevin Murphy Jr., Patrick Murphy, Corre Ptacek, Robin Cook, Hunter Neff, and Mark Starr; siblings, Jolene Feleki of Demotte, IN and Merle (Marcia) Benoit of Crescent City, IL; several nieces and nephews.

Murf was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
