Marlene Dutton, age 86, of Algona passed away on October 25, 2018 at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Marlene Joy Iverson, the daughter of Hans and Annie (Carlson) Iverson, was born on July 5, 1932, in Crystal Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1949. On July 19, 1953, Marlene was united in marriage with John “Jack” Dutton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She had worked as a seamstress at Elk Cleaners, Diamonds Men’s Clothing for over 20 years and at her home. Marlene enjoyed family fishing trips to Cass Lake in Minnesota and her sister Erna’s cabin on Little Pine Lake in Minnesota. She also enjoyed word puzzles and playing card games, which she could do for hours with her friends and family.

During the holiday, she made caramels, anise, and other Christmas goodies that she loved to share with her family. Marlene was close to her sister Dorothy and looked forward to their phone conversations and an occasional trip to the Seattle area to visit Dorothy and her family. During football and basketball season, you could find Marlene in front of the TV cheering on the Vikings and Hawkeyes.

Marlene is survived by her children, Judy (Roger) Lentz of Emmetsburg, Peggy (Duane) Hoffmeyer of Sioux City, Joe Dutton of Omaha, NE, and Jason (Rachel) Dutton of Ottawa, IL; 10 grandchildren, Jayme (Melissa) Lentz, Robyn (Troy) Tystahl, Ryan Lentz, April (Aaron) Kramer, Eric Hoffmeyer, Kara (Dustin) Archer, Jaryd (Shelbi) Dutton, Nolan Todas, Chloe Dutton, and Noah Jonassen; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Crapser of Snohomish, WA; a sister-in-law, Shirley Dutton of Omaha, NE; and a special niece, Doris Haugland of Crystal Lake as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Viva, Ruth, Alyce, Erna, Peggy, Janelle, Irene and Faye; and brothers, Carl, Ernest, Allen and Billy.
