Mark Richard Hendon, 58, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2023, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born to Henry L Hendon Jr. and Mary Lois (Shuder) Hendon.
Mark was the fourth sibling in the Hendon family. He had a great childhood enjoying the special times with his sister, Pam; brothers, James and David; and Bill Burrell who shared the same birthday and lived nearby. They all attended school in Las Cruces, NM. In 1982, Mark graduated from Las Cruces High School where he belonged to the German Club. He deeply loved his Bulldogs and Minnesota Vikings. In 1983, Mark met Robert Brackett and began to attend NMSU pursuing a Marine Biology degree working various jobs including a baker, carpenter, waiter, and electrician before he began working in Upper Management for Hillger Oil Company (Conoco). Mark moved to Alamogordo in 1993 and began to work. In 1998, Mark and Robert began Barbering School. They graduated school and co-owned and founded The Last Bastion Barber Shop in Cloudcroft, NM. Mark had the good fortune to appear and win on “Powerball”, the game show, so he was able to enjoy not having to work.
Mark moved to the country in 2010 and became a gentleman farmer in his overalls. Whatever he raised, he gave to his friends, neighbors or whomever needed or wanted it. His pride and joy were his Crane Melons. Mark was injured during a Dental procedure in 2013, that left him in great, constant pain. He endured the pain and continued his life maintaining his sense of humor the best that he could. He learned to live and function with his limitations, maintaining his wit, humor and compassion for others. Mark always had a kind word for everyone he met. He made you feel important and respected.
Mark is survived by his sister, Pam Fernandez of El Paso, TX; brothers, James Hendon and David Hendon of Las Cruces, NM; friends, Robert Brackett, Justin Jones and Shawna Schultz all of Alamogordo.
