Mark D.
Mark recently had surgery for a broken femur at Methodist from where he never recovered. When he was six years old, with his mother in poor health and a young sister at home, he was placed in Muscatatuck Hospital in Butlersville, IN., as he needed special care.
On May 13, 1962, Mother’s Day Sunday, a car-truck crash on the Paris-Clinton road abruptly ended the lives of his dad, mother, sister, and grandmother. The family was enroute to Sanford, IN.
Tom Vicars was 26, his mother Rita, 24, sister Lynn Ann, 3, and grandmother, Marcella, 45, died instantly on that day 53 years ago.
After the passing of his grandfather, Frank Pitchkites Sr. in 1974, Lillian Pitchkites Campbell was appointed his guardian. Although Mrs. Campbell was able to continue to serve many more years, another co-guardian was named when Muscatatuck Hospital closed, and his aunt, Joyce Pitchkites Shew then filled that obligation with her sister.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Max and Marcella Vicars; maternal grandparents, Mary and Frank Pitchkites, Sr.; uncle and aunt, Roger and Judy Vicars; and uncles Frank Pitchkites, Jr. and Edward T. Pitchkites, of Clinton and Dana; and cousin, Jeff Campbell.
Surviving are aunts and uncles, Diane Vicars Pitchkites; JoAnne Vietti Pitchkites, Lill Pitchkites Campbell, Larry and Diane Vicars, Allen and Joyce Pitchkites Shew, and Jim and Brenda Vicars; and cousins, Tammy, Tom, Lizzie, Jenny, Bonnie, Ben, Joy, Kim, and Kevin.
