Marjorie Chasteen McCarty, 89, Anderson, died November 5, 2006 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson, Indiana after an extended struggle with heart disease.
She was born January 15, 1917 in Scott County, Indiana, the daughter of Willard and Effie Chasteen. She lived in this area for most of her life. Marjorie was a photographer for several years in Anderson and also worked 12 years at the Pendleton License Branch. She retired from the Registration Office at the Anderson Government Center in 1974. Marjorie was a long-time member of Whetstone Christian Church. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, fishing and oil painting. She married her high school sweetheart, William Matthew McCarty, on July 26, 1937. The couple marched together at the Anderson High School Commencement in 1935. The McCarty’s celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past summer. For the last 31 years, they have spent their summers in Minnesota in their cottage, the Lemon Drop.
She is survived by her husband, William M. McCarty; two sons, William Larry & wife Marilyn McCarty and Roger Chasteen & wife Becky McCarty both of Anderson; five grandchildren, Kathy & husband Ryan Mayes of Connecticut, Jennifer & husband Brent Givens of Fishers, Will McCarty of Chicago, Sarah & husband Chris Dalton of West Lafayette and Audrey McCarty of Indianapolis; two great grandchildren, Braden Givens and Jenna Givens both of Fishers; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Perry; and several cousins, nephews and a niece.
She was preceded by her parents, Willard & Effie Nicholson Chasteen and a brother, Merrel Lester Chasteen.
