Marjorie M. Smith, November 25, 1920 – April 29, 2013.
Marjorie Smith, 92, of Belton, formerly of Delhi, New York. Mrs. Smith was born November 25, 1920, in Delhi, New York, the daughter of Arthur D. and Edith (Pearce) Morrison. During World War II, Mrs. Smith was a true “Rosie the Riveter”, as she wanted to do her part in helping the war effort. She went to work at a factory not far from her home town assembling parts for the bombers.
She married Leslie Smith, September 8, 1953 in Enfield, Connecticut. Later she worked with her father at his John Deere dealership, after his death she took over the franchise, becoming one of the first female John Deere franchise owners in 1972. She kept the dealership until the mid 1980’s. Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of the West Delhi Presbyterian Church. She moved to Belton in November 2012 from New York. She was preceded in death by her husband March 9, 1995. Survivors include her son Mark Smith of Belton, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
