Marjorie Lavrenz, age 95, of Burt, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
Marjorie May (Otto) Lavrenz, the daughter of William and Mayme (Geuther) Otto, was born on March 13, 1922, in Comfrey, Minnesota where the family was engaged in farming. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church. The Otto family later relocated to Cherokee County in Iowa where she received her early schooling. In 1935 the family moved to Algona where Marjorie continued her education in Christian Day School and Algona High School.
On January 6, 1942, Marjorie was united in marriage to Roland H. Lavrenz in Whittemore, Iowa. They made their home in Burt where they raised six children and became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Marjorie was a member of Ladies Aid as well as Al-Anon Family Groups. Marjorie worked several years at Vogel’s Grocery Store in Burt. Marjorie loved gardening and had many beautiful flower gardens over the years. Many family and friends have plants started by her loving hands. Marjorie also had a love for sewing, quilting, cooking, and working on crossword puzzles. Marjorie truly loved watching her family grow and never missed sending birthday greetings to each. Marjorie moved to Clarion, Iowa in December of 2013 where she continued to nurture her plants, quilting, and became an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rowan. Marjorie is survived by 5 of her 6 children, Karen Kral and her husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Roger Lavrenz of Burt, Floyd Lavrenz and his wife Tish of Burt, Loreli Redemske and her husband Jim of Clarion, Mayme Wilkinson and her husband Bill of Clarion; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law Shari Lavrenz of Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; a son, Richard Lavrenz; a grandson, Scott Anthony Lavrenz son of Floyd and Tish, a daughter-in-law, Marsha Lavrenz; and a sister, Dolores.
