Marjorie Lenora (Jennings) Hawes, 94, of Rodman Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Misty Meadows Assisted Living in Metropolis Illinois. Marjorie was born September 11, 1921- the tenth of 12 children- to Roy Jennings and Gustabella Cramblet Jennings. Her parents were farmers and all of her young life was spent on the farm with her brothers and sisters. Her siblings, now all deceased, were Minnie(Pape) Jennings, Marie (Schmidt) Jennings, Jessie (Klepper) Jennings, Bernice (Perkins), Gertrude (Lowe), Frances(Brewer)Jennings, Harold Jennings, Ione(Sanders) Jennings, Milo Leroy Jennings, Juanita (Schmalen) Jennings and Beverly (Wirtz) Jennings.

Marjorie grew up with cousins too numerous to name. Marjorie took teacher’s training and began her career in a one-room schoolhouse near her home. After World War II she took a job in Peoria Illinois as a chemist for Caterpillar Tractor and met, her soon-to-be husband, David Harry Hawes. David was part of the apprenticeship program that Caterpillar offered and so they began what was, first, twenty years in Peoria followed by another 10 years in Davenport Iowa. Marjorie taught in the Catholic schools in the Peoria Illinois area for almost 20 years before they retired and moved to Paducah Kentucky. Once in Paducah she began to teach across the river at St Rose of Lima School in Metropolis Illinois. After her husband’s death, she taught another few years and then retired from teaching.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Hawes) Bohus and her son David Jennings Hawes. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Laura Hutchison of Chicago, Jason Hawes of Memphis, Missouri and Stacy Hawes of Stockton, California. Great-grandchildren are Matthew Hall Hutchison of Chicago, Samantha Saculla, and Anastasia, Anisha, April, Adriana, and Abony Hayden of Stockton California.
