Marjorie was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on December 27, 1916 to Richard and Roxie Taylor, the last of seven received her elementary education in Pryor, Oklahoma and Meridian, Idaho. She attended high school in Meridian and Franklin high schools, graduating in 1934. She went to Boise Business University and later moved to Ada, Oklahoma where she attended East Central State College. While in Ada she met and married Rayburne Lievsay in 1941. They lived in Ada and Oklahoma City where their son Larry was born. In 1944 they moved to Tacoma, Washington and later to Boise. In 1957 they moved to Pendleton, Oregon and lived there until 1961. They moved back to Boise.During her life she worked at various positions. While in Oklahoma she worked as secretary to the president of the college she attended.
