Marjorie Elizabeth ( Donlan ) Staples of Stoughton and Palm Harbor, Florida passed away in the early morning of May 15, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
Marge was born in Jamaica Plain, March 17, 1921 to the late John and Emma (Marshall) Donlan. After graduating Norwood High School, Marjorie continued her education at the Mount Auburn Hospital School of Nursing. She enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and became a flight nurse, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Her greatest joy was returning American POW’S to their home hospitals.
After the war, Marjorie continued nursing in the ER, the OR and in a private practice. While working at one of those jobs, she met the love of her life, the late Herbert N. Staples. They were happily married for over 64 years and blessed with two loving children, Donald H. Staples, a Stoughton Firefighter, married to Diane and Joan E. Cromwell, a Connecticut school teacher, married to John. She had three grandsons, Daniel, Jelani and Steven, two great-grandchildren, Stevie and Charlotte and many nieces and nephews. Marge was also a sister to the late John, Larry and Richard Donlan and a grandmother to the late Dennis Staples and Dina Staples.
After retirement, she and Herb moved to Florida. Marge loved the weather for her outside activities of bike riding and swimming.
Because of her love for and 30 year involvement in the Stoughton Little Theatre, Marjorie continued her passion for acting and directing and brought Readers’ Theatre to the places she lived.
After the death of her husband in 2013, Marjorie moved herself back to Stoughton, residing at the Arbors, to be closer to her family and lifelong friends, the Goetzes. Everyone was able to celebrate her 94th birthday with her a little over a month ago in March.
