Marjorie Anne Draper of Nampa, formerly of Burley, left her home on October 15, 2022, after battling a long illness, to join her Heavenly Father. She was 81 years old.
Marjorie (Marge) was born on September 8, 1941, in Ontario, Oregon to Elmer and Helen (Smith) House. She was primarily raised as an only child. Her brother Raymond who was sixteen years older enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age eighteen, so he left home when she was two. Marge’s sister Mildred was fourteen years older. She left the home and was married when Marge was four.
Marge grew up on a farm in Fruitland, Idaho. At age fifteen she lost her dad to a heart attack. After his death Marge’s chores increased, including milking cows, feeding the chickens, chopping wood, hoeing beets and onions. When she was not working, she enjoyed riding horses, cheerleading, Majorettes, and playing softball. In school she participated in 4-H including both sewing and cooking.
In 1961, Marge moved to Boise and began working at the Merc Department Store on her own. It was there she met Dean Draper. They only courted a brief time, before they knew they were meant to be together. They married on August 12, 1962.
Dean and Marge had two daughters, moved to Payette, and then later to Burley. Summers were spent camping and fishing.
Like her earlier years, Marge was a diligent worker. She worked for the Merc Department Store for 23 years (along side Dean). In 1985, she began working for the city of Burley, first as a receptionist and later became the payroll clerk. During her eighteen years of employment with the city, she also worked two additional part time jobs with Dean for “fun money” for trips.
Marge was believer in Christ from an early age.
Marge was active in her community. She was President of the American Cancer Society and Secretary/Treasurer for the Syringa Plaza. She also served as a board member for Credit Women International.
Throughout the years Dean and Marge enjoyed traveling. They attended the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada seventeen years in a row.
Marge enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, concerts, rodeos and watching sporting events.
Marge is survived by her husband, Dean Draper, daughter Pam Newland, daughter Kim (Gary Ady); granddaughter Erin (Jonathan Smith), granddaughter Ruthee Sheckells (Phillip Smith), granddaughter Leslie (Robert Clampitt), granddaughter Ashley Summer Lechnar (Jeremy Vale); 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ron Nielsen, and several nephews and nieces which were so dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her son Rick, both her parents Elmer and Helen, her brother Ray, sister Mildred, and niece Linda.
Our mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend will be missed greatly. She is our warrior/hero and will forever be remembered by her warm smile and contagious laugh. We find peace knowing she is home with our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and Heavenly Father.
