Marion Vivian Altenburg was born into God’s world on December 31, 1927, daughter of Walter and Laura Altenburg. She was born in her family home in Pleasant Mound Township, Blue Earth County. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and also confirmed there on April 6, 1941. She received her Christian education at St. John’s Lutheran School, district 2. On April 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Waldemar Breitbarth. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in Pleasant Mound Township, eventually moving to the farm she currently lived on in Antrim Township, Watonwan County.

She worked tirelessly on the farm beside her husband and their children. She loved gardening, especially the many flowers she loved to grow. The time she treasured the most was spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Wally’s passing she enjoyed working at the Truman Public School in the cafeteria. From their marriage to the present, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Antrim Township. She loved sewing and needlework, playing cards with her friends, neighbors and relatives, and cooking delicious meals and treats, warming the hearts and delighting the tummies of her grandchildren. We all admired her strength of character, her independence and quiet nature, but especially the way she walked in her faith.

Marion passed from this life into eternal life on November 6, 2015 at the age of 87.

Marion is survived by her three children, Randy Breitbarth and wife Sarah of Truman, daughter Ardis Ahlman and husband Stan of Faribault, and son Craig and wife Sheila of Truman. She also has eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Delila Menk and Alice Schlie, and two sisters-in-law, Lilah Altenburg and Lois Breitbarth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wally, two brothers, one sister, four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
