It is with great sadness and solemnity, that the Costello family announces the passing of Marion L. Costello on August 10th, 2014, in Gainesville, Georgia, at the age of 96. Mrs. Costello was a life-long resident of La Salle, Illinois, and was a proud member of the Greatest Generation, known for being a sharp, stylish and fashionable lady who dearly loved her friends and family. Born February 20, 1918, she attended St. Patrick’s grade school, La Salle-Peru Township High School and Brown’s Business College. At the age of 20, she met and married the love of her life, Frank H. Costello, on October 22, 1938. Together they had three children who survive her; Jack (Germaine Gregorich) Costello of Gainesville, Georgia; Mark Costello of Omaha, Nebraska; and Kitty (Michael) Crosby of Phoenix, Arizona. Additionally, she is survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren soon to be six, her beloved nieces, many grand nieces and nephews who affectionately knew her as Auntie Moe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank in1982, her mother, Laura Segaert Ryan in 1972; and her beloved sister, Catherine Crowley in 2003.
For nearly a century, Mrs. Costello was known for being religiously devoted and stalwart in her faith, she being an active member of St.
Perhaps what will be missed most however, is her wry sense of humor and infectious laughter, a quality carried on in her children. Never one to miss a moment marking an occasion with an off-the-cuff line, her family and friends could sit for hours listening to oft told stories of her life’s adventures, and characters in generations long since passed. Her memory for these times was sharp and clear until her last day.
She was a strikingly beautiful and vibrant woman who loved fashion, defiant of conventions for women of her age and lived life on her own terms. She loved remembering friends and family with greeting cards making a lasting impression on their lives.
The Costello family would like to mention a special appreciation for the care, concern and love over the years from Marion’s niece, Carol Shaw.
