Marion “Jean” Beacom of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, 89, formerly of Freeport, Il died Tuesday (July 22, 2008) at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc, one month shy of her 90th birthday, surrounded by her 3 loving daughters. Marion “Jean” Beacom was born on August 21, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania the daughter of Charles and Ida (Miller) King. She was united in marriage to Dr. George Hubert Beacom in 1940 in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death on March 9th, 1974.Jean graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education. She taught public school music for many years before retiring from Lanark Community Schools in 1974. She was a church choir director for many years in Mt. Carroll and Freeport Il, she taught private voice and piano and was active in the Freeport Choral Society. Music was her life’s work. Her legacy lives on in the hundreds of voices that sing because of her. She was devoted to her family and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws, Blair and Darryl Deets of Manitowoc, Wis., Blythe Hamilton, of Freeport, Il, Benay and Jerry McCue, of Saint Anne, Il; one daughter-in-law Barbara Ripley of Sarasota, Florida. Grandchildren, Shana Deets, Adam (Melissa) Deets, Audrey (Brad) Pollard, Aaron (Laureen) Hamilton, Kelly McCue, Kris (Dave) Stukenborg, Jim (Mandie) McCue, Bruce Beacom. Great-grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Deets, Brittney, Katlyn and Keaton Pollard, Haleah Hamilton, Jenna and Nick Mullinax, and Mason and Teagan McCue. Also two sister-in-laws, Ida Margaret Sowash and Mary Ellen Beacom. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dr. George Hubert Beacom; her son Bruce A. Beacom; brother William King; and brothers and sister-in-law Harold Beacom, Vaun Beacom and Leone Miller.
