Captain Marion E.Mayo, Jr. (US Army Ret.) passed at Richard A. Roudebush Veterans Hospital on May 31, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born July 18, 1947 the youngest child of Marion E. and Ruth (Greathouse) Mayo. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, he graduated from Shortridge High School. He was enrolled at Purdue University when called to serve his country in the United States Army. He received several citations while he served including the Purple Heart.
While serving in Vietnam, he was “walking point” when he stepped on a land mine resulting in the loss of his left foot. After discharge from the Army, Marion continued his studies earning a degree in Engineering from Purdue University.
Preceding him in death his parents Marion and Ruth Mayo, sister, Rose E., mother Ernestine Mayo, brother Louis Goens, and sister Dolores Fields.
He is survived by his wife, Kitsy, sisters Shirley A. and Margaret J, niece Marilyn Hall (Greensboro, NC) , and other relatives and friends.
